When Cape Verdeans Maria Roderiques and Josefino Lopes Cabral were married in 1928 in Nantucket, MA, they had to settle for a rectory wedding. As people of color, they were not allowed to be married in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Isle Church. 24 years later, their daughter Norma married Albert Teixeira.
