Despite lightning on the horizon, three Ames men pedaled north at 5:30am on July 10, 1974, on a good-natured endurance test. Initiated by the challenge of youth versus maturity, the destination of the 180-mile trip was Lake Okoboji in northwest Iowa. The trio (from left) comprised Dr. Marvin Freeburg, Don Good, and George Kuehl. They made it to Rockwell City at 2:30pm after pedaling through the afternoon heat and humidity.
