Saint Katharine Drexel, S.B.S., (November 26, 1858 – March 3, 1955) was an American religious sister, heiress, philanthropist and educator, later canonized as a Roman Catholic saint.

Although she had a privileged life, she used all her wealth to help others, especially Native Americans and African-Americans. Katharine Drexel 1858-1955 In the late 1880s wealthy heiress Katharine Drexel turned her attention to educating the poorest of the poor: African Americans and Native Americans. Called Kate or Kitty by her family, she created schools on reservations in the west and southwest, and eventually founded Xavier University in New Orleans. Katharine Drexel became St. Katharine Drexel in 2000.
