AZRA NECKLACE~ part of Russian crown jewels til 1873. 110 perfectly matched pearls with a large round black pearl and a diamond cross pendant w/black pear shaped pearl called 'the Azra'. Empress Catherine II gave it to Potemkin 1783, inherited by his niece, Princess Tatania Yusupov. Lydia Deterling later owned the Azra but lost it at Paris reception for Princess Margaret. It was never found.

Property from the collection of Lady Lydia Deterding - (Lydia Pavlovna Koudoyaroff) (1904-1980) – A black pearl & diamond necklace. The diamond is 7.17ct & the black pearl stems from the collection of the Yussupovs in Russia. The original configuration for this necklace is seen here as it was displayed by the Yussupovs in the 1920s along with La Pelegrina & the Azra black Pearl of Catherine II

The "Azra Pearl" has been one of the most famous black pearl in the world. It weighted 149 grains. The pearl adorned as a pendant a black pearl necklace which would have belonged to the Russian Crown jewels until 1783, when Empress Catherine II allegedly gave it to Potemkin, who himself would have later bequeath it to his niece, princess Tatiana Yusupova. That’s how the pearl would have come into the Yusupov collection.
