The European bison, or wisent, became extinct in the wild in the early 20th century due to hunting. The wild wisents living today are all descendants of the fewer than 50 individuals kept in zoos in 1927, the year the last wild wisent was shot to death by poachers. They live in small herds and will frequently interact with other herds to exhange individuals.
The Asian golden #cat is a medium-sized wild cat of Southeastern Asia. The Asian golden cat was named in honor of the Dutch zoologist Coenraad Jacob Temminck, who first described the African golden cat in 1827.
