Important Jeremiah Sheldon Chippendale Block- and Shell-Carved And figured Mahogany chest of drawers, Attributed to John Townsend, Newport, Rhode Island, circa 1765 - Appears to retain its original highly elaborate brass hardware; drawers inscribed A, B, C in chalk. Also inscribed Back in graphite twice on the back board of two drawers, and with a cabinet shop mark, a chalk letter B on the lower back board.  Height 32 in. by Width 35 1/2 in. by Depth 19 3/4 in.; Case Width 33 3/4 in.
