This is another period piece that surprised me - or, rather, that made me surprise myself. Instead of being put off by the fact that the tone of this book is so clearly dictated by the era in which it was written, I found it really charming, and the characters are drawn in such a lovely way..

Judging the book by its cover it seems like a fun beach read, but as is the case with most books and people there is much more to the story. The characters are tragic and dysfunctional yet hilarious in their own right. It will make you laugh and cry.
