"Youth has no age." Pablo Picasso Dancing by David Douglas Duncan ~ He was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright who spent most of his adult life in France. As one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore.

Gustav Klimt and Emily Floge
Fashion Designer, Art Klimt, Artist Klimt, Artists Studios, Art Gustav, Artists Portraits
Emilie Louise Flöge was noted for reformed dressing - a stern departure from that era's historicist style of corsets and cumbersome full skirts. Coupled with their association with Vienna Werkstatte, Floge's radical aesthetic of loose-fitting, flowing dresses made her a celebrated figure in the Viennese feminist groups. She's posing next to the artist Klimt.
Emilie Flöge and Gustav Klimt. Emilie is the subject of Klimt's famous Portrait of Emilie Flöge from 1902. She is also believed to be the female model in Klimt’s famous work, The Kiss. Klimt in his work smock

Picasso's piece Harmony Art Mom's Sketch Tuesday is inspiring and a reason to get to some fun art projects. This week, she encouraged us to sketch Picasso's Rooster. We had a great time. We didn't use chalk pastels as she suggested, as DD11 wanted to try oil pastels. They turned out really neat! I love the brilliantly deep colors Picasso used, as well as the messiness of it all. The oil pastels achieved a deep color that is hard to duplicate with regular crayons or paints. I hope you try this project out! It was very enjoyable. Julie

Gala and Salvador Dali. Gala Dalí (Elena Ivanovna Diakonova) (7 September 1894 – 10 June 1982), usually known simply as Gala, was the wife of, first, Paul Éluard, then Salvador Dalí, and an inspiration for them and many other writers and artists.

Salvador Dali and wife Gala, 1964 NARIQUE MENESES/REX FEATURES Salvador Dali who inspired Elsa Schiaparelli's lambchop hat and jacket, painted in early 1930's a portrait of his wife Gala with a pair of raw chops poised on her shoulder. Portrait of Gala with Two Lamb Chops in Equilibrium Upon Her Shoulder, Salvador Dali 1934 © Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York Image: Copyright Whitney Museum of American Art Portrait of Gala with Two Lamb Chops Balanced on Her Shoulder, Salvador Dali 1933 © Salvador Dalí, Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, Figueres, 2004. "I painted a portrait of Gala with a pair of raw chops poised on her shoulder. The meaning of this, as I later learned, was that instead of eating her, I had decided to eat a pair of raw chops instead. The chops were in effect the expiatory victims of abortive sacrifice - like Abraham’s ram and William Tell’s apple. Ram and apple, like the sons of Saturn and Jesus Christ on the cross, were raw - this being the prime condition for the cannibalistic sacrifice. In the same vein I painted a picture of myself as a child at about the age of eight, with a raw chop on my head. I was trying thus symbolically to tempt my father to come and eat this chop instead of me.” Salvador Dali from his 1942 autobiography "The Secret Life of Salvador Dalí"

“They are so damn ‘intellectual’ and rotten that I can’t stand them anymore…I would rather sit on the floor in the market of Toluca and sell tortillas, than have anything to do with those ‘artistic’ bitches of Paris.” ~Frida Kahlo
“Frida Khalo. Made beautiful work. Made beautiful work even when she was bed-ridden, when she was lonely, when her painting was belittled, when she was in physical pain, when her husband had an affair with her sister. Her work is personal AND universal, it reflects both her internal landscape and the political and social landscapes of Mexico, of women’s struggle, of class struggle. Outstanding artist and person”.
