As a kid we would go to Amish country every year. I became friends with a young Amish girl who worked for the motel and in exchange, she was allowed to swim in the pool. Her bathing suit was a dress! It amazed me... She amazed me!

I think it's just against them to take and keep pictures. Sign of vanity.

Amara Humphry Oakes maybe, I was watching a show called the Amish mafia an one of the people on the show freaked out when someone tried to take a picture of an Amish lady

I just got done watching Breaking Amish, and one of the girls (a Mennonite) was adopted; her adoptive parents sent pictures of her to her birth parents. One of them also complained that her parents didn't have pictures of her as a kid, so she didn't know what she looked like and mentioned that it was because of vanity. From what I know, though, it just depends on what their bishop says is okay and not. Some drink, some can't, etc.

Amara Humphry Oakes oh! Okay that makes sense. Thanks! I Kind of wish there was more information out there about Amish culture. It seems interesting

Yeah it is! My mom and grandma have read novels centered on young Amish women and they really liked them. I'm thinking about reading them too. Definitely going to check out Amish mafia

Living the Amish way......

Nice horse with open buggy. I saw one like this in IN,on my way to MI.

Amish praying I love this photo I do hate his face is showing as I know they do not like that...I wish the photographer had used respect on that part. I love the simplicity of this photo.

I grew up seeing the Amish buggy's rolling up and down the roads. Mrs. Graber used to sell her eggs door to door. I love their lifestyle of simplicity and God. The tv show about them is a lie and it angers me. They are joyful, God loving people.

Lancaster county, PA is known as the puppy mill capital of the U.S and the Amish dominate the trade.

Jackie Antos.....curious, where did you live? My maiden name is Graber and most all of my family on my dad's side are Amish. They live in the Shipshewana area of IN. Just wondered if your "Mrs. Graber" was maybe a relative! :)

My Mrs. Graber was from small Montgomery, Indiana. It's where my grandparents lived and I spent most of my summers and free time there. Love it there!

A few hours away, but may be a relative, none the less. Glad you have great memories from there. :)
