Julie Ann Art: DIY Christmas Decoration Tutorials- Wrap lights around a tomato cage to make Christmas tree!

unconsumption: An upside-down tomato cage + strings of holiday lights = a fun (and easy-to-make) alternative Christmas tree. (Via Unconsumption’s “holiday things” board on Pinterest, thanks to @imelda!) Now this is the kind of Christmas decoration I can get behind.

DIY Christmas tree – just wrap lights around a tomato cage! (3’ to 6’, < $4) Indoors or for the front porch! Place it into a pot w/ soil for a traditional look, or just leave it as is. If you place in a pot, use metal wires or old clothes hangers – bend pieces to secure the cage in. Wrap garland in a spiral to cover the cage, then decorate w/ Christmas lights and ornaments!

Small space DIY Christmas tree ideas // use a tomato cage and lights as a do it yourself tree

Tomato cage wrapped in lights. The answer to my problem of not being able to find much blue outdoor decorations. Already pinned something like this, but this is a better picture.

Tomato cage wrapped in lights! You could get very creative with this. Add faux green christmas tree garland, then add lights. You could use all sorts of different garland like snow garland, holly, pinecones etc. Buy a plastic outdoor urn/vase, fill it with dirt and stake it down into dirt. Instant, inexpensive Christmas tree for the front door!

Tomato cage & lights - one thing I did different was to get honeysuckle vine from my parents farm and wrapped it around the tomatoe cage first, then wrapped the lights aroung it - it looked great. You could also buy grapevine at a hobby store and wrap the tomatoe cage first, then add the lights. Could be used as a large center piece or outside by your front door.

Take advantage of tomato cages being in stores now! GREAT tutorial! It cost less than $20 to make!

A version of this will definitely be making an appearance in my house at Christmas time
