Dolores Modeling by Adolf de Meyer, 1921 She came in hurriedly looking back making sure she wasn't being followed or that anyone has seen her enter the store. She sat down at the small round table nervously biting on her finger nail. She heard movement from behind the curtain, and her breath caught as it opened and she appeared, dressed in gold silk, carrying a round clear ball. "Please...I need to know..." she spoke in rushed whispers. The woman never spoke a word as she sat down and put the ball upon the table. She closed her eyes for what seemed to be to the inquirer eternity, before she opened them and gazed into the round crystal. Finally she spoke. "You are here with one question in your heart. I can tell you the things I see, but regardless of what they are you will still continue to believe what is in your soul." The woman sat there in stunned silence not knowing what to say about the cryptic reading. "Just...tell me...tell me...what you see." she begged. The beautiful witch glanced once again into the ball, as it seemed to catch fire with the candle light that was now swaying as if a breeze had blown in from the street. Odd, she thought. There is no breeze, but I'm chilled. The witch raised her eyes once again to peer deep into the dancing green pools across from her. "There is love yes. But not as you would want it. There will always be a river to cross with this love. The fates have already cut the string, now it is up to you to cut the silken thread as well." The witch scooted out her chair, gently picked up the crystal ball and walked back behind the curtain leaving the distraught woman to ponder upon what she had been told. She slowly rose, hand shaking as she replaced the chair. She walked out, not hearing the bell jingling over her head. She walked, for what seemed like hours to where he was. She sat down and bowed her head and told him what she had been told. Her tears fell like rain, but it had to be done. She had to finally let him go. Love is a very fragile thing, much like a butterflies wings it can be broken with a whisper of the lips. She stood up, wiping her wet face and walked away from him the final time.. May you rest in peace finally she said aloud as the cemetery gates clanged loudly behind her. *Princess Reigne*

On a cold December day in 1879, a man was hanged in Fort Saskatchewan, putting an end to one of the most horrifying killing sprees in Alberta history. Swift Runner was executed for murdering and then eating eight members of his own family over the previous winter. He believed he was possessed by Windigo, a terrifying mythological creature with a ravenous appetite for human flesh. It's the first of many similar stories throughout Alberta.

In 1879, Swift Runner, a Cree was hanged in Fort Saskatchewan. He was executed for cannibalism of his own family, believed from the starvation the Cree's endured. He believed he was possessed by Windigo, a terrifying mythological creature with a ravenous appetite for human flesh. His background seemed not unusual. As a young man he received a solid useful Cree education; he married; he traded with the Hudson's Bay Company; and, in 1875, he served as a guide for the North West Mounted Police.

100 years of mugshots. Is there a general face of criminality? What do guilty criminals look like? New York-based artist and art director Mark Michaelson has collected over 10 000 mugshots of the last 100 years, ranging from 1870 to the 1970s. The photos come from prisons and police departments all over the country and show murderes, thieves, hookers and adulterers. Women as well as men, elder persons as well as adolescents. A poetic view on past decades.

Le Pétomane Le Pétomane was the stage name of the French flatulist (professional farter) and entertainer Joseph Pujol (June 1, 1857–1945). He was famous for his remarkable control of the abdominal muscles, which enabled him to seem to fart at will. His stage name combines the French verb péter, “to fart” with the -mane, “-maniac” suffix, which translates to “fartomaniac”. The profession is also referred to as “flatulist”, “farteur”, or
John Rogan (ca. 1865-1905) was one of the tallest men reported since the beginning of modern record keeping, eventually reaching a height of 8′ 9″. A native of Sumner County, Tennessee he spent most of his earlier life on crutches. By his young adulthood he couldn’t stand or walk at all, and had to be pushed around on a cart. He earned his living by selling souvenir photos of himself at the local train station. Newspapers of the time billed him as “The Negro Giant”.
