Rajan - one of the last the swimming elephants in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, #India
Rajan, the 60-year-old Asian elephant in Jeff’s winning picture, was rescued from the banned Andaman Islands logging trade. Today he takes daily swims in the ocean with his handler and Jeff was privileged to join them in the water for a dip. When asked about his experience Jeff said: “Swimming under water with such a massive land animal was one of those unforgettable life experiences“ http://www.roadlesstravelled.com.au/australian-museum-wildlife-photographer-of-the-year-review/
The Natural History Museum will display some of the best images from its Wildlife Photographer of the Year archives in its summer exhibition, Wild Planet. This Asian elephant was taking a dip with a handler when US photographer Jeff Yonover captured the moment it ducked its huge head under water and used its trunk as a snorkel!
National Geographic features exquisite photos of animals in their natural habitat. Showing the beauty of the animals attracts fans and funding to try to preserve the natural habitat.
