Years ago I was given a bracelet with a small hamsa on the clasp. I fell in love with the image, but never understood it until a few years later as I was inspired to create a painting of one. This is not my painting, but it's very pretty. :)
The Hamsa (also known as the Hand of Fatima, the Hand of Miriam or the Hamesh hand) is a Muslim and Jewish symbol of good luck intended to ward off evil and protect against the evil eye and the envious. The Hamsa is shaped like an open hand stopping or warning an enemy.
