A FREE lab investigation of the macromolecules. This activity helps students understand the presence of these biological organic compounds in different foods that we eat, all done in the setting of a murder mystery. So fun for a biology or forensics class!

Blood Type and Pedigree Mystery Lab Activity. I love teaching anything that connects to the real-world in my biology class - plus my students love a good mystery! Would be awesome for a forensics class too!

This puzzle helps students review the 4 major macromolecules of the body: Lipids, Proteins, Carbohydrates, and Nucleic Acids. You will cut up the triangles and students will have to arrange them in order based on matching pairs. For example, one triangle might say "nucleic acid monomer" and students would align it with the triangle that says "nucleotide."Included are 4 versions.

Always FREE!! This is not a teaching powerpoint. This powerpoint is suitable for Advanced Placement Biology classes that need a quick review over a particular topic. Several months before the AP Biology exam, I begin to run through these short powerpoints to start my students on the road to reviewing for the exam in May. Each powerpoint is a set of questions followed by the answer. As the exam approaches, I spend 10 to 15 minutes each class period running through the questions on these…

Macromolecule Card Sort Activity

Students will cut out cards (function, monomer, polymer, elements contained, and example) and place them in their correct position next to their appropriate macromolecule.

This document reviews the properties of the four biological macromolecules and provides students with a chance to observe which types of foods contain each macromolecule. Perfect for a real life application to your biochemistry unit!Students will need to bring in a food label (or several!) and add it to the class collection.

Biological Macromolecules Activity - Macromolecules in my Food?

One of the most difficult units in high school biology to learn (and to teach!) is the biochemistry chapter.  The complex vocabulary and the abstract concepts make this unit seem like a foreign language to most students.  I know because for the first few years of teaching, all of my students had the same …

Menu Planner - Biochemistry Activity Have students explore what macromolecules are with this Menu Planner activity. Give students a print out of the nutrition facts from Panera Bread. Have students pick out what they would typically get if they went to dinner there. Students record this on a chart & then find totals of the carbohydrates, proteins, and fats that they would consume. Then students will answer questions that help them discover what each of those macromolecules gives our…
