Carole King's It's Too Late is Record of the Year in 1971

Carole King • Tapestry - I wore out this album. First pop songs I learned on the piano. Who doesn't know just one of them. "You've Got A Friend" "So Far Away" "I Feel The Earth Move.." "It's Too Late" "Beautiful" "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" "You Make Me Feel (Like A Natural Woman)" and more. So so good.
My first album and some of my all time favorite music.
Carole King 'Tapestry' (1971) Surely a classic in anyone's book. This was one of the first album's I bought when I started buying vinyl again. Initially I bought a lot of 70s albums. I'd entered teenhood believing that anything from that decade that was pre-punk and wasn't the Stooges, Lou Reed, Bowie, Bolan or Roxy Music was 'not good'. Nonsense, of course, but it did mean that I got to 'rediscover' a lot of classic rock and singer songwriter stuff later on.
Carole King's Tapestry is one of my favorite albums. Google Image Result for http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CiE_xz40zik/S7bwwq5bB8I/AAAAAAAACNY/UPjHUDsLU-8/s1600/imag20907.jpg
Carole King's Iconic album cover, featuring her own Tabby. In my opinion, the best single album ever. Normally you would have to get a compilation of greatest hits to get these many great songs.

Cass Elliot "Mama Cass" Such a timeless voice. I wish she were still around to share it with the world.
@Gale Martin considers what it's like to lose a favorite pop idol to an ignoble death >>> "To this day, I’ll never forget the saddest radio news story ever... I had my transistor radio tuned in [when] a news break came on that stunned me. 'Yesterday, Mama Cass Elliott, the lead singer for the Mamas and the Papas, was found dead in London...'"

"My Back Pages" is a song written by Bob Dylan. 'The Byrds' released a recording of "My Back Pages" in 1967, as part of their fourth album, 'Younger Than Yesterday'. The title of the album was itself directly inspired by the song's refrain of "Ah, but I was so much older then/I'm younger than that now."
Carole King made her name in the Brill Building scene with husband Gerry Goff writing timeless american classics such as "Will you still love me tomorrow?", but it wasn't until she moved to Laurel Canyon and got her hippie on and recorded Tapestry that she really blossomed and became the real Carole King we all know and love
