Interactive read- aloud's are great for ELLs because students are able to hear the text and learn through vocabulary through conversation. Students can take these three steps: stop & jot, stop & think, turn & talk, to engage in thinking and meaningful discussion. A few things to keep in mind when planning for read- aloud's: stick to simple texts that students can understand, choose texts with illustrations, and choose multicultural books.

Interactive read alouds will occur every day. Due to students with disabilities having stronger visual and kinesthetic learning styles, interactive read alouds will keep them engaged in the reading. I will pause after a few pages and ask my students questions to check their understanding. I will also ask them to confer with neighbors or mimic motions in order to keep them engaged during the reading.

The camera stops the action and magnifies it so that all the amazing states of water can be observed — water as ice, rainbow, steam, frost, and dew. Readers can examine a drop of water as it falls from a faucet, see a drop of water as it splashes on a hard surface, count the points of an actual snowflake, and contemplate how drops of water form clouds."

The Watcher: Jane Goodall's Life with the Chimps by Jeanette Winter. Biography of Jane Goodall. Use in Science/Animal Lessons or Social Studies-careers. Grades 2-4
JB Goodall: The Watcher: Jane Goodall's Life with the Chimps by Jeanette Winter: Born on April 3, 1934. Talks about Jane's childhood and how she began *watching* early. Saving money, moving to Africa, watching the chimps, and advocating for the chimps. Text is on the easy side, and not extremely exciting, but still worth reading and thinking about.
Acclaimed picture book biographer Jeanette Winter has found her perfect subject: Jane Goodall, the great observer of chimpanzees. Follow Jane from her childhood in London watching a robin on her windowsill, to her years in the African forests of Gombe, Tanzania, invited by brilliant scientist Louis Leakey to observe chimps, to her worldwide crusade to save these primates who are now in danger of extinction, and their habitat.
“The Watcher: Jane Goodall's Life with the Chimps” by Jeanette Winter is an interactive read aloud about the life of Jane Goodall. This non-fictional biography accounts for Goodall’s dreams as a child, and how she made those dreams possible as she grew older. This captivating story talk about some of the things that Goodall did once she got to Africa to learn about the chimps and some of the things she learned while she was there.
The Watcher: Jane Goodall Life with the Chimps by Jeanette Winter: This pair of biographical picture books make a perfect gift for any child who loves animals and stories about "true life," as my preschooler puts it. Me... Jane gives us the childhood of the great primatologist, as she rambles around her English country home with her stuffed chimpanzee Jubilee at her side. She was a focused observer of animal life at an early age, and dreamed big dreams of Africa even then. The Watcher takes us to the forests of Gombe, Tanzania with Jane where she learns all about chimps and fights to safeguard the species and their habitat. We are thrilled to share with our kids two such appealing books about an extraordinary scientist.
