Calm Down Jar. A time out alternative. When they are feeling out of control, they shake the jar, then sit and watch the glitter settle in the water. When the glitter settles, they can get up. The swirling glitter is quite soothing to watch!
WE LOVE THIS. It's called a "Calm Down Jar" and it's filled with glitter. Children shake the jar to get their frustrations out and then they’re asked to wait until the glitter has all settled in the bottom. By the time the glitter settles, hopefully so have they. To make, just fill 1/2 of a jar (preferably plastic) with glitter (maybe a color they like) and the rest with water. Screw lid on tight and you're all set!! WE KNOW SOME ADULTS THAT COULD USE THIS!

Having an open crafting area means the kiddos can tell me when they want to explore or create with a certain material, like paint for example. This will have a huge impact on their creative process, instead of me dictating when it's time to be creative.
