Pyroclastics do leave behind some bizarre rock formations, such as these spine like remains at Mt Mazama (Crater Lake, Oregon) formed by steam bubbling up through the PC deposit and solidifying it. Mt Mazama suffered a Caldera forming eruption, and 7000 years ago, the crater collapsed into the magma chamber, forming this lake. This is a great site, with loads of detail about the eruption and the remaining features, and the area is now a major tourist attraction. (NB part of the Cascades)
