You love western and war films, and love your cowboys! Your man is patriotic, and takes care of all your needs, he will go out of his way to make you happy! Your dream man is the Iconic John Wayne!"

Since 1994, when Harris first began polling a large sample (2,311 this year) of Americans with the simple question "Who is your favorite movie star?", only one actor has made the top ten every year and only one actor has made it posthumously: John Wayne. In 2014, The Duke did it again, placing 7th -- holding the same spot he held last year.- He was my dad and my grandpa's favorite!
John Wayne - who doesn't like this guy? He was a man's man and one of my daddy's favorites. Best Movie Quote: Colonel Madden (Back to Bataan):"This kind of war, you've gotta believe in what you're fighting for."

Marion Mitchell Morrison, better known by his stage name John Wayne, was an American film actor, director and producer. John Wayne was born May 26, 1907, in Winterset, Iowa. He received his first leading film role in The Big Trail (1930). Wayne would go on to star in 142 pictures, primarily typecast in Western films.
wow, look how young! JOHN WAYNE IN “THE BIG TRAIL”, 1930- I saw it once. The original copy was so old, that when they converted it to VHS, some of the dialog and frames were missing and had to be subtitled in. It wasn't bad for being one of the first Talkies.
9/06/14 12:38a John Wayne These photos, found by Retronaut, are from IMDB's page on a movie called ''The Big Trail''. Filmed in 1930, it was John Wayne's first headlining role. He played a fur trapper bent on revenge for the murder of his partner and falls in love with a young Ruth (Marguerite Churchill) along the route to Oregon to catch the killers.

John Wayne - The Cowboys 1972. He was one of my favorite actors way back then. I loved the westerns.
Shot during John Wayne’s 1972 filming of “The Cowboys,” renowned celebrity photographer Bob Willoughby adeptly captured The Duke’s rugged, tough-guy essence. Credited for inventing the photojournalistic motion picture still photograph, Willoughby created strong, insightful images of legendary stars, including Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Audrey Hepburn and Frank Sinatra.

Life is Hard. This one's for my dad, since he loves John Wayne and I know he'd agree with this saying.
No one could say it like The Duke! That is if he actually said it!!! There is no movie where this is actually quoted! After the death of Gary Cooper, who reigned the West in the movies, John Wayne became known as the "Last American Cowboy".

John Wayne - I don't feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from [the Native Americans] ... Our so-called stealing of this country from them was just a matter of survival. There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves
A very young John Wayne in The Big Trail (1930). This film was the first to be shot in widescreen format. But it was released in standard because theatres could not afford to update their screens and projections. This was when the Depression started.

John Wayne, The Searchers 1956/....Ethan from The Searchers. Said to have been his favorite role -- enough to even name his son Ethan.
John Wayne -- During World War II, Wayne worked with the USO, visited the troops and was honored by the military with an Army RAH-66 Helicopter named the "Duke." He also volunteered as a member of John Ford's field photographic unit.
Actor John Wayne, was born Marion Robert Morrison, on May 26, 1907, in Winterset, IA. He died June 11, 1979.
No, John Wayne is not a character actor. He was a star, but stars often squelch good character acting, afraid it will over shadow them. John Wayne and Paul Newman encouraged it and their movies are better for it.
John Wayne, The Searchers 1956 - He played the part of Ethan (for which he named his soon) well, maybe too well. If I had to choose my least favorite character that he played, it would be that of Ethan. He was so racist and shallow. Yhe character, not "Duke". He was out to kill his own niece, Natalie Wood, because she was captured and partially raised by the Natives. However, he redeemed himself in the end. Thank God for the movies and happily ever after!!
I have grown up on movies by this man. He is a legend and is pretty much all American.
