Mice netsuke, from Edmund de Waal's collection - size in comparison to hand

The Hare with Amber Eyes, Edmund de Vaal ..I am completely bowled over by his family memoir, which tells its story via a collection of Japanese netsuke (one of which is above) that has been inherited through the generations. ..De Waal is better known by many as a ceramicist ...The book was turned down by almost every publishing house, and when it was eventually published, with a modest first print run, no one imagined it would be the runaway success that it now is.

Mouse netsuke. Years ago the Metropolitan Museum produced very accurate plastic replicas (without any markings to indicate it came from the Met). I bought one just like this and later it was stolen with other genuine netsuke. I wonder how long the thief thought it was the real thing.

This fun little mouse would be a good woodcarving project made from a hard oily wood.
