    Henry David Thoreau

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately to front only the essential facts of life & to see if I could not learn what it had to teach, & not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

'I'm one of those people that you have to keep your eye on or I'll wander off into the woods and forget to come back.'

Robert Frost One of my girl's English teacher had them study Robert Frost this year and this poem. The teacher told them that this was a poem of regret, that the speaker feels he made the wrong choice. I strongly disagree with that. I think that the speaker realizes that not taking the easy path enriched his life. I'm curious what others think about this poem. Is it about regret or gratitude?
