Dice Games or Math Games
Pinterest - Classroom Ideas and Inspiration
I was buzzing around pinterest, websites, and the internet and saw some simply clever teaching ideas. I thought you would love them too! Dice Game Containers It drives me crazy when students dice are rolling on the floor, and making a ton of noise during dice games in math. These little plastic containers are the perfect solution! You can purchase a set of 4 of them at the Dollar Store. Milk Crate Chairs I am always looking for creative storage solutions, and these milk crates are the next best thing for my classroom needs. I can't wait to purchase some milk crates, fun material, boards and cushion and create these milk crate chairs. These crates will be perfect for my center material storage, and will not take up space in the classroom because they will double as seats for my small group table. Brain Sprinkles This idea just cracks me up, and I know it will make the students smile! Every once and awhile the kids are stumped on coming up with an answer, and brain sprinkles will help them loosen up and hopefully help their brain waves retrieve the answer. Brain sprinkles are a great way if you want them to be motivated right before a test. Tattle Monsters This is how you turn simple tissue boxes into something super eye catching. This is a great way for students to write down what may be on their mind, and put it into the monster's mouth. Hopefully, this will allow the students to voice their concern and get their tattle out of the way, allow you to focus on teaching, and check in with the tattle monsters as it fits into your daily schedule. Here's to a year of productivity, and not a lot of tattling :)
Okay.... so I haven't pinned a lot lately... I don't know what is wrong with me?!? So I had to dig back into the archives and find some things that I thought would be good. So here it is.... This coin flip book came from Classroom Freebies. It was created by Diane. I will be doing this activity next week since I have decided to spend the last week of school reviewing coins and working on counting money. I feel like this is a skill that my kiddos really need to work on. I've seen this idea before but I still love it! In order to keep the kiddos from throwing the dice... putt them in clear containers. Have the kids roll the dice, and look through the clear bottom to see what was rolled. I really like these because of the pop of color. Super cute! (Could not locate the original posting. If you posted these, let me know so that I can give credit where credit is due!) I really like this craftivity from The Kinder Wife. Kids love anything that they can use their hands + paint for.... plus painted hands make most things so much cuter (this definitely being one of those things)!! I'm keeping this in mind for when I teach ocean life next year. Okay... so I know Mother's Day isn't over yet... but I only have one more week until I have to have Father's Day stuff accomplished. This bookmark from Creative Family Moments is adorable and any dad that likes to read is sure to love this! I love the idea of card games being used for math. I've been wanting to get my kids playing War... but then I think about all the other fun things you could do... like I could have kids add the cards together... or figure out the biggest number then subtract the cards... I'm half tempted to make all of my math centers card games next week. I mean... come on! Super fun! And this paper alliGREATER is super cute! Thanks Wendy @ Living Creatively for sharing this on your blog! Okay... just one more thing before I go tonight! I just created a cute Mother's Day Card and uploaded it to my TPT store! In honor of TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK I decided to make it FREE for TONIGHT ONLY! In the morning I will be changing it back to $1.50 (which is still a really good price). PLEASE leave me some feedback if you download this product! Thanks! We will finish our tomorrow.... Hopefully I'll remember to take some pictures so that I can show you the finished product.
I am linking up with Ashley Reed over at Just Reed. This week's Ten Pin Linky is Math Idea Pins. There are so many wonderful ideas out there. I love teaching math, but often struggle to get it all in with our math series (Go Math!) by following our counties pacing guide. My goal this year is to incorporate math groups by using the Daily 5 for Math. Here are a few activities I have found on Pinterest to introduce a concept or to use as practice. 1. I love this board and have purchased Cara Carroll's Calendar Companion. http://pinterest.com/source/justreed-ashley.blogspot.ca/ 2. This can be challenging at the beginning of first grade, but the kids rise to the occasion with lots of practice:) http://pinterest.com/source/mrswilliamsonskinders.blogspot.com/ 3. The clock visual is great once the concept of time has been introduced not to mention it can replace the "That time is lunch?" question:) http://pinterest.com/source/teacherspayteachers.com/ 4. No more dice falling on the floor:) http://pinterest.com/source/sunnydaysinsecondgrade.blogspot.com/ 5. 6. I have a math vocabulary pocket chart, but this is so much more appealing and attention grabbing. http://pinterest.com/source/justreed-ashley.blogspot.ca/ 7. http://pinterest.com/source/stepintosecondgrade.blogspot.com/ 8. This is such a great visual from A Cupcake For the Teachers for sums of 10. http://pinterest.com/source/acupcakefortheteacher.blogspot.com/ 9. We always chant, "The little hand tells the hour and the big hand counts by 5." 10. My first unit on TpT was Ladybug Addition. I plan on going back to update it, but am on vacation for 2 more weeks:) So, until then, Ladybug Addition will be FREE! I would love you to leave some TpT feedback if you download it:) http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Ladybug-Addition-Mats
I spend WAY too much time on Pinterest. When I saw this linky (hosted by Ashley from Just Reed) it looked like something I had to join in on. So...in no particular order, here are my 10 favorite pins for math ideas. I have added links back to the original sources (as far as I could tell, anyhow). Organizing Idea: Use dollar store soap boxes to organize card games - great idea!!
We are toy-organizing crazy around here, with bins, tubs, boxes, labels...you name it. Organizing simply makes me swoooooooon! All is right with my world when things are organized. There are always a few things though that don't seem to fit into the places you want them to go for one reason or another. Enter: the Plastic Travel Soap Dish Walmart, $1 store, etc....CHEAP. I got interested in soap boxes many years ago when I was a Kindergarten teacher. If you're a teacher, you know that the actual box that crayons come in lasts about 2 weeks in a classroom. Buckets are nice, but for small group work when everyone might need the same color for something, then the amount and/or sharing becomes a problem. So I came up with this idea way back then, so that each kiddo could grab a soap box of crayons for small groups. They take up very little space (even with 12 of them in a classroom), so it really worked well. (16 crayons...and more will fit if you like.) As a Mommy, you also know that crayons can be an essential part of waiting rooms, grocery stores, or the BMV. :) I've made a Crayon Roll-Up to suit those needs for my own kiddo, but if I had 4 kids I'm not sure that would be time or cost-effective. So maybe multiple soap boxes would work well for that. So what I've discovered is that soap boxes are COOL! Cheap and very, very effective at corraling those little things. Our #1 use for a travel soap box at home is for playing cards: You know how the box never stays together for very long? (Kind-of like the crayons?) Especially for games like Skip Bo, with tons of cards and a box that only the original production line can get them back into anyway. It doesn't hurt that it makes it real easy to take them along, too. We don't have a soap box for EVERY card game, but we do use them for the big packs like Skip Bo, or those where the box just isn't working. We also use them for small craft things, too...like jewelry-making beads for my kiddo: You could color coordinate for each of your kids, or for stay-home things and take-along things. Here are a few other uses I came up with for these little life savers: First Aid Stamps Stickers on the go Candies on the go (suckers, mints, etc.) Mom's Little Lifesavers: Nail Clippers, Chapstick, Dental Floss, Band-Aids, a sucker What other ideas can you add? I'd love to hear them. If it's plastic I want to store something in it, so please share!! Thanks for dropping in! I'm linking up to these parties:

DIY plastic bag holder-use a baby wipes container
And like most times, I forgot my reusable shopping bags...and after my groceries were put away, I was left with a crumpled pile of plastic bags. I reuse these all the time. They line my bathroom trashcans, I keep a few in my car for trash or messy baby outfits. And I always have one full of stuff to return or hand me downs to pass on. These bags are really handy...but they are ugly! I never knew how to store them. Then today, I found yet another use for an empty baby wipes container. A pop-up bag dispenser! I shoved a plastic bag in through the top of the container, leaving the handles sticking out. Then take another bag, hold it buy the handles and straighten it out. Loop the bottom of the bag through the handles of the first one and shove it all in the box. Repeat until it is full (you can fit a lot!) And that's it! When you pull one out, another will pop out of the top. I keep this box by my changing table. I don't use a stinky diaper pail. Just toss the mess in the bag, tie it up and throw it in the outside trash can. This would also work well under a bathroom sink since it condenses the bags so neatly. Genius, right? :)

Hello, everyone! I hope you all are doing well. This week, I thought that I would let you know what is on my craft agenda for March. As of lately, I have been even more addicted to Pinterest! This has given me many craft project ideas that can be achieved by simply re-purposing things I have and giving items much needed makeovers. I cannot wait to get started on creating and designing these projects! Here are some of the projects I hope to accomplish this month: 1. Spray Painted Folding Desk Chair: As some of you may not know, I am a college student who lives on a budget. Therefore, I have to make do with what I have. So, I thought I would give my ugly folding chair a new look. I would like to try to achieve something similar to The Moon and Me's makeover that you can access here: Paint Your Wagon - Or at Least Your Folding Chairs. Here is a gorgeous picture from the makeover on this blog: I hope this can be done by purchasing one can of spray paint! I haven't decided on the exact color yet, but I am leaning toward lilac. 2. Framed Key Wall Art: I love wall art, and I especially love creating my own. One post that has particularly been on my mind since seeing it is this Refurbished Key Portrait Tutorial on Amy's blog Mod Podge Rocks: I just so happens that I have the perfect key to complete this project that my mom purchased for me at Hobby Lobby not too long ago. She has a ton of old keys displayed on the wall of her craft room at home, and she knows how much I love them. So when she saw a vintage looking, rot iron key with birds on it, she just had to buy it for me--I LOVE birds. If I remember right, it wasn't more than $10.
