Old Jewish Cemetery, Prague, Czech Republic A bit of history Dating from the 15th century, this cemetery was for hundreds of years the only burial place permitted to Jews in the city. Due to the lack of space, people had to be buried on top of each other – there are thought to be up to 12 layers in some places, lying beneath headstones sculpted with figures representing symbols of family names.
