Chicken coop cinder block "heater": cinder block that has a stepping stone on the top as a cover. Inside one cavity of the cinder block I added a light bulb. The light bulb puts off just enough heat to keep the concrete block warm. The waterer then sits on top of the concrete and keeps it just warm enough not to freeze.
Cinder block heater & water warmer - light bulb inside cinder bock covered with a stepping stone & water container set on top won't freeze......very clever idea!

Snake - Chicken Predators - How To Protect Your Chickens From Snakes on BackYard Chickens
The site speaks about snake traps etc... My Grandmother would place an old Porcelain Doorknob with the shaft sawed off in each nest. When a snake would raid her for eggs it would also swallow a doorknob. The snake would find the tree outside the hen house and swing to break the shells but could not break the doorknob or spit it up. It would end up beating itself to death. Worked for my Grandmother.
