A "kohno" (day cradle) was used to keep a Comanche baby out of harm’s way or, if a mother was gathering seeds or roots and on the plains, it could be easily carried along her back. This photos shows a Comanche "pia" (mother)  her "onaa" (baby) ca. 1899. The "kohno" lay next to her right side.
