It tells the story of Baby Girl and Perry, two young women trying to define themselves. Hunter’s incredible mastery of language and storytelling is on full display in this debut novel, which also interweaves the voices of an alcoholic mother, a prison guard, and a threatening internet stalker. Ugly Girls is gritty and realistic, beautiful and deranged. The more Baby Girl and Perry spiral out of control, the closer the reader is drawn into this devastating tale of America. —Isaac Fitzgerald
Worth Reading, Hunters, Ugly Girls, Uglygirls, Books Worth, Reading List, Baby Girl, Lindsay Hunter, Novels
Ugly Girls by Lindsay Hunter is a novel about a complicated friendship between two girls, Perry and Baby Girl, and the alleged high school boy who's been following them.
Ugly Girls by Lindsay Hunter Hardcover, 232 pages / Lindsay Hunter's novel follows best friends Perry and Baby Girl as they shoplift, ditch school and steal cars. But critic Annalisa Quinn says Ugly Girls has more shock value than substance.
Lindsay Hunter’s debut novel tells the heartbreaking story of an unraveling friendship between two young women, Baby Girl and Perry, as they careen through a world troubled by suburban poverty, alcoholic parents, and the attentions of a sinister internet stalker. As unnerving and irresistible as the baddest of bad influences, Ugly Girls is not to be missed.
Ugly Girls: A Novel by Lindsay Hunter http://www.amazon.com/dp/0374533865/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_SplKub1SMSWTK
Ugly Girls by Lindsay Hunter | I read this gritty novel just a couple of days ago. I felt like it really had no plot - just two friends, or rather frenemies, who spend their days doing random shit, being horrible to each other and being horrible to everyone else. And then when it ended, it was so abrupt that I had to flip back to see if I missed something. However, the author is very good at describing flawed characters and their bleak lives.
Ugly Girls is far and away one of my favorite books of 2014. It tells the story of Baby Girl and Perry, two young women trying to define themselves as well as their friendship against the backdrop of suburban poverty. Lindsay Hunter’s incredible mastery of language and storytelling is on full display in this debut novel, which also interweaves the voices of an alcoholic mother, a prison guard, and a threatening internet stalker. Ugly Girls is gritty and realistic, beautiful and deranged.
Ugly Girls: A Novel by Lindsay Hunter. Perry & Baby Girl are best friends. Their friendship is woven from the threads of never-ending dares & power struggles, their loyalty fierce. They spend their nights sneaking out, stealing cars for joyrides & appearing hard to the world. Jamey, an alleged high school student, has been pining after Perry, following Perry & Baby Girl’s every move. When they agree to meet Jamey face-to-face, they quickly realize he’s far from the shy teen they thought he was.

Beginning with the attempted assassination of Bob Marley in 1976, A Brief History of Seven Killings takes us through two decades and a multitude of lives. We hear tales told by ghosts, magazine writers, gang members, nurses, and more—characters who feel real and three-dimensional, fascinating us as they disturb us.

Marlon James, author of the critically acclaimed “The Book of Night Women,” returns with an epic novel woven around the attempted assassination of Bob Marley. Spanning several decades, “A Brief History of Seven Killings” is a complex portrait of one of the most unstable periods in Jamaican history. Part historical fiction, part thriller.

The book was awarded the 2015 Man Booker Prize. Brief History of Seven Killings is the third novel by Jamaican author Marlon James. It was published by Riverhead Books. The novel spans several decades and explores the attempted assassination of Bob Marley in Jamaica in the late 1970s and its aftermath through the crack wars in New York City in the 1980s and a changed Jamaica in the 1990s.
A BRIEF HISTORY OF SEVEN KILLINGS by Marlon James / Mr. James uses the 1976 assassination attempt on Bob Marley as a portal into Jamaican politics and culture, and his novel becomes an elliptical inquiry into race and class, and the volatile relationship between the United States and the Caribbean.

The Doors...and a window. Photo: Joel Brodsky. New York, 1967. I saw them three times in person way back when. Jim Morrison was the first man I ever saw wearing leather pants! Also, at one intimate performance I saw in Los Angeles he fell off the stage and broke his arm -- then just got up and kept performing! The Doors were amazing at an incredible time in history. LTM

۞ The Doors were an American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles, California, with Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, John Densmore and Robby Krieger. The band took its name from the title of Aldous Huxley's book The Doors of Perception. They were among the most controversial, influential and unique rock acts of the 1960s and beyond, mostly because of Morrison's wild, poetic lyrics and charismatic but unpredictable stage persona. After Morrison's death in 1971, remaining members disbanded in 1973.

Katharine Ross & Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate (1967) A celebration of youthful rebellion also appeared in The Graduate, which was the third-highest grossing film up until this time. In this film, a young college graduate rejects a hypocritical society and the traditional values of his parents--and the promise of a career in "plastics"--and finds salvation in love.
