Oatmeal was extremely mushy:(. Almost the consistency of baby food. Cooking times are too long.

I made this the other night, followed it exactly. Very gross. No one in my family would eat it.

Followed directions to a T, sugar and apples on bottom....BURNT! Oatmeal then water, cook 8 hours...GROSS!! The oatmeal literally disintegrated, it was like soup on top, no texture, and burnt on the bottom. EPIC FAIL!!

I think if you gave it a stir and cooked it only a few hours, it could work. Somebody try it and let me know. LOL!!

Made this today and didn't read the comments prior. Used half milk instead of all water. Cooked on high for 2 1/2 hours stirring once. It was great. Unless the recipe calls for something with oil or butter, always cook it on low.

I made this last night. I was very delicious, but here are the changes I'd make: double cinnamon to 2 tsp. (I used Penzeys cinnamon and I could hardly taste the 1 tsp. called for). I used Bob's steel cut oats and the consistency was perfect--I'd perhaps go as high as 4.5 cups of water (no milk during cooking). And I only cooked it from 10 PM to 5:30 AM. And I always like to add milk to my cooked oatmeal, so after spooning into a serving bowl, I topped with a bit of milk. It was very good!

You can't use quick cook oats with crock pot recipes, I think that is where the mushy disintigrating thing comes from. Try using Steel Cut Oats.

I made mine with the quick oats because I didn't have the other....it was delicious! It wasn't mushy either.

The house smelled wonderful but the oatmeal lacked taste and was mushy, despite using steel cut oats. :(

I have noticed (over the years) that Rival is the only crockpot that I can trust to leave things overnight on low heat without burning. Every other company has come out with new-fangled slow cookers and they always disappoint me by overcooking food. Rival is the one I'd trust for this recipe. And again, I made it with a few modifications and it was delicious. Don't give up on it!
