Taking Care of Preemies
Kangaroo care vs. hospital care for premature infants.
Teddy & Me® are the UK's leading premature baby clothing company, in fact you may have come across their clothes in your Neonatal Unit, because they supply hospitals throughout the UK. Designed to be practical and comfortable, they are also an excellent fit. Developed with the help and advice of neonatal specialists; and mums of special care babies, who just like you wanted to dress their tiny baby. Early Baby Store is pleased to stock garments from the Teddy & Me range.
This picture is from an article called "The Rescuing Hug". The article details the first week of life of a set of twins. Each were in their respective incubators and one was not expected to live. A hospital nurse fought against the hospital rules and placed the babies in one incubator. When they were placed together, the healthier of the two, threw an arm over her sister in an endearing embrace. The smaller baby's heart stabilized and temperature rose to normal.
In NICU, babies often only wear a nappy; this is because they are inside a thermostatically controlled incubator which is humidified to help keep skin moist. Medical staff need to be able to see the baby’s skin colour at a glance; it’s also important for them to see the chest rise and fall as they breathe. Clothing becomes important when babies are transferred from an enclosed incubator to an open cot; usually this occurs in the HDU as part of their transitional care. www.earlybaby.co.uk
