P.L. Travers, actress, journalist and author. | Most famous for her Mary Poppins series, the first of which came out in 1933, Pamela Lyndon Travers began writing and acting when she was still a teenager. She moved to England in 1924, where she dedicated herself to writing. She was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1977.

Caroline Herschel was the first woman to discover a comet. Her story is kind of a Cinderella one - deformed by typhus as a child, her parents expected she would have to work as a maid for the rest of her life. But when her brother started taking her along on astronomical outings, she found she had a gift. One of the first women honored by the Royal Astronomical Society, Caroline discovered multiple comets and nebulae.
