Gary Thain (19), is a bassist from Christchurch, New Zealand. In his hometown he was the first musician to own an electric bass at age 13. At age 15 he quit school and became a professional musician. With his older brother he founded the band The Strangers, one year later Peter Dawkins joined. The band had two top-hits in New Zealand, one written by Gary. The band broke up and Gary became a session musician. But when Peter asked him to join him and to come to England, Gary was thrilled.
