i had no idea i need a squirrel chair feeder.
Well, that sure didn’t take long (getting a shot of a squirrel actually sitting IN the chair). The squirrel chair/feeder which has been up only 3 days is very popular. There is a squirrel on it every time I look outside. They are taking turns, sometimes with a bit of squabbling. It’s just dark now, about 7PM, and the same squirrel is still out there eating. The ear of corn I put out this morning is nearly gone. So far, I’m giving this feeder 5 out of 5 acorns! LOL! The squirrels are leaving the bird feeder alone so that’s a bonus. Indeed our squirrels are fat and happy. They are so big this year; they almost look like Yankee squirrels! Hugs and thanks for viewing! =o) ***All rights to my images are STRICTLY reserved. Butterfly Feeder...how cute. much better idea instead of a bird feeder where u just end up with a lot a bird poop in your yard
Butterfly feeder to go with the butterfly garden. Place at the top of the tower instead of a bird bath.
Homemade Butterfly Feeder, never even thought about something like this, we have tons of butterflies gardening-ideas
A butterfly feeder would be a great addition along with the birdfeeders in the backyard! #PinMyDreamBackyard
butterfly feeder- take a shallow dish or birdbath, add just a splash of water (they usually drink from mud puddles) and add cut fruits. Their favorites are banana, orange, honeydew, and cantaloupe. Note- butterflies are attracted to yellow, so if you choose a yellow dish you may see results faster.
A butterfly feeder! We can't do a bird feeder because of our family of squirrels. Maybe they won't bother this.

fresh lemon flower arrangement -- perfect for spring!
Floral arrangement with lemon slices
Spring Flower arrangements
Today's Pretty Post is this cheerful flower arrangement with a fun idea for hiding the stems. To make this arrangement you will need a couple things. You will need a glass water pitcher as shown, and a smaller cylinder (or even a tall, skinny drinking glass) to place inside the pitcher. You will need about two lemons cut into thin, round slices. And you will need your flowers. And water. Flowers like water. Maybe some floral keeper. Place your cylinder / drinking glass in the center of the glass pitcher. Arrange the lemon slices around the pitcher, sticking them to the inside wall of the pitcher. Make sure they are close and snug together so that you can't see the cylinder behind the slices. If you need to add a couple clear marbles or decorator's stones to hold the lemons in place, you could carefully place those in between the lemon slices and the cylinder. Move your glass pitcher to where you want to display it. Add your floral keeper to the water if you are going you use any. Add the water to only the cylinder / drinking glass. Add your bouquet of flowers into the water. And done. Sit back and enjoy your lovely display or present to a friend or loved one. Perfect to cheer someone up on a cold February day. You could switch up the fruit and use limes, oranges. I like to use lemons, but then add in some cranberries for colour. Or you could skip the fruit all together and use other fun things like gum balls, M&M's, smarties (though that would take a lot whole bunch of smarties). I've used wrapped Werther's toffees or colourful hard candies. Just be sure if you are using food items that they stay dry from the water in the center container. I also find it easier if I wrap a couple elastic bands around the flowers before I plunk them in the water. This ensures that the flowers all stay in one place as well as makes it easier to remove them if I need to re-cut the stems or change the water or the fruit. This arrangement makes a big impact and is fairly easy to do in a short amount of time. While I like greenery, I find hiding the stems makes the arrangement more interesting. Enjoy your fresh flowers and have a wonderful day.

soda bottle bird feeder, great kids craft idea!
recycled soda bottle garden-ideas
Have you seen this recycled water bottle birdfeeder craft? It's all over pinterest and has been up on Family Fun's website for quite some time. source: familyfun.com We have done this craft before, and it is great. It also conveniently meets cub scout bear requirement 5B (Build or make a bird feeder or birdhouse and hang it in a place where birds can visit safely.). So, it's time for us to do this craft again! We learned some things from this craft last time. The finches loves the feeder, and, as you refill the feeder, all the seed under the bottom perch never gets touched and rots into a hockey puck that won't come out. Yuck! And not good for the birds. Old feeder with rotted seed still in the bottom— after we worked to clean it for recycling! So, this time, we decided to turn the bottle upside down! This way, when we refill, what was at the bottom will become the top, so it will cycle. Less waste, less rot. We do this a little differently than Family Fun. Supplies: 1 empty plastic drink bottle (ridged near the bottom is best) X-acto knife found stick scissors kitchen string funnel bird seed (we use nyger seed to attract native house finches and lesser goldfinches) With the x-acto knife, make an X about 3" from the cap of the bottle. Make sure your stick will fit through. Than make another X opposite the first one. Push the stick all the way through. If the stick isn't level or exactly straight, it doesn't matter—the birds won't care! Then, an inch or two above the perch, poke the x-acto in and rotate it to make a hole. You may need to slice off a small piece of bottle (my 9-year-old did not want to do the slicing). Do the same on the other side. Next, tie a length of string around the bottom of the bottle (which is our top for this project). Use any lip or groove to help hold the bottle. Tie this piece in a knot as tight as you can. Then, take another length of string. Knot it to the first string on each side. The, fill your feeder! Use the funnel. We didn't fill ours all the way, as we hung it in a new spot. It might take the birds a few days to find it. To refill, simply take it down, turn it over, unscrew the cap, and pour more seed into the funnel. Hang back up. Linked up: Sew Darn Crafty

Earth Day is Sunday, April 22, 2012 In the United States it is a day that was founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson and focuses on environmental awareness. Another Earth Day called International Earth Day takes place earlier in the year on the Spring equinox. Tips for bringing green into your life, day by day. 1. Use rechargeable batteries -- Duracell now has a line of pre-charged rechargeable batteries! 2. Don’t use plastic storage containers, and definitely do not heat food within a plastic container in the microwave. 3. If possible, take public transportation or walk. 4. Unplug all of your appliances when you leave the house to save energy (and prevent a fire hazard). I agree except for your refrigerator. 5. Don’t purchase disposable water bottles, but rather use recyclable (and refillable) beverage containers that you can fill with filtered water. 6. Try your hand at composting (planting scraps from fruits, veggies, and coffee grounds outside), which will help create better soil and less landfill waste. 7. Opt for direct deposit, online banking, and paperless statements to reduce your paper usage. 8. Switch from paper and plastic bags to reusable bags and totes. 9. Get in the habit of brushing your teeth with the water off, and encourage your children to do so, as well. 10. Save water by decreasing your shower time -- or rather take a bath, which uses less water than a shower. See Photo Above:My own green project is to reuse a few plastic water or soda bottles to feed visiting birds. |Bird Feeder Project: Materials plastic bottle with lid, wooden spoon, dowel, bird seed, string or twine, knife,Directions1. Find an empty 20 oz. water or soda plastic bottle. 2. Take lid off of the bottle and cut a home in the lid. 3. Take twine or string and pull it through the cut in the lid of the bottle. Make sure the string is long enough to tie to a tree and hang down at least 6-8 inches. 4. Go to the hardware store and buy a dowel, midway of the bottle cut a round hole on each side just big enough to slide the down through from side to side. Then measure one inch above the dowel hole on each side and cut a hole the size of the top of a pencil eraser for the bird to reach the seed. 5. Find a wooden spoon and repeat the same process as you did tor the dowel. Take off the lid of the bottle and pour birdseed into the bottle, replace lid and hang from a tree.
