In the U.S., the five most popular purebred goats are Toggenburg, French Alpine, Saanen, La Mancha, and Nubian. (The last two give slightly less milk than do their three "cousins," but  their product is high in butterfat.)  Grade (crossbread) goats are cheaper to get and may even produce more milk than most pure breads, but their kids sell a lot cheaper so it's usually best to spend the extra money for a pure bread and pay yourself back in selling their offspring.
