The Ronald McDonald House is one of the most incredible organizations I've come across in regards of philanthropy. They provide a "home away from home" for children facing medical crisis and their families. If there is a house in your area, it is worth every second to stop by and see how you can volunteer.

“I will write peace on your wings and you will fly all over the world.” – Sadako Sasaki Sadako Sasaki was a Japanese girl who was two years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945, near her home next to the Misasa Bridge in Hiroshima, Japan. Sadako died of leukemia, an effect of the nuclear radiation from the bomb on October 25, 1955 at the age of 12.: Sadako is remembered through the story of a thousand origami cranes before her death, and is to this day a symbol of innocent victims of war. She remembered the Japanese saying that a person who folded 1,000 cranes would be granted a wish. Her wish was that she’d be able to run again. Paper was in short supply but Sadako was resourceful; she used medicine wrappers and asked other patients for wrapping paper from their presents. She was only able to fold 644 before her death, and her friends completed the 1,000 and buried them all with her.  After her death, Sadako’s friends and schoolmates published a collection of letters in order to raise funds to build a memorial to her and all of the children who had died from the effects of the atomic bomb.  In 1958, a statue of Sadako holding a golden crane was unveiled in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. At the foot of the statue is a plaque that reads "This is our cry. This is our prayer. Peace in the world." Today, August 6, HIROSHIMA DAY,  Sadako’s paper cranes fly with Kites for Peace,  a creative Children-led Response to the violence against children in conflict areas around the world. It is inspired by the kites that 13,000 Gaza children flew together in 2011 to break a Guiness World Record.  It is our dream that no more children will be born into war in our lifetime as we end armed conflict and violence in our generation now.  To GIVE CHILDREN A VOICE in the ongoing violence in conflict areas in the world, click HERE to join.
