Doesn't have to be this cutesy, but I love the idea of text to self, text to text, text to media, and text to world connections in a foldable to help students "get it." Also scaffolding for journal work and worksheets.

Making Connections - maybe something like this could lead to more direct connections. I swear my students can connect two very different things just to talk about what they did over the weekend during reading. :) :) Gotta love 'em!
