Eclipse Shadows (Partial Solar Eclipse, Northern California, May 20, 2012) - The solar eclipse made some interesting shadows in and around the house, courtesy of the plum tree making what were effectively pinholes for the image to come through. Note: The eclipse was partial from my location due to being outside the path of annularity. CREDIT: merelymer on YouTube
Amateur photographers weren't the only ones that got to witness today's eclipse. This image was taken by our good friends at the Kanzlehohe Solar Observatory in Austria just as the moon was passing directly in front of the telescope. The image was taken using a hydrogen filter and you can make out some of the active regions that are currently on the disk, as well as a few filaments (the dark snake-like structures which are actually plumes of cool gas suspended above the solar surface).
