On the US West coast, watch for the Venus transit to begin around 3PM local time on June 5. Those on the US East coast will have to act fast as the transit becomes visible around sunset at 6PM. For those in Europe, sunrise on June 6 will be optimum viewing time.
When a solar flare erupted yesterday (Aug 31rd), scattering a billion atomic bombs’ worth of energy into space, NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory was staring at the sun. They recorded this video, which NASA released Friday morning. The footage shows the flare in three different wavelengths of light. Teal and gold correspond to ultraviolet light, while the blue channel shows only that wavelength.
