Cassandra Butler, this is EXACTLY what doris did ..only she used points instead of stars (however, if they earned ALL their points for the day she did say they got "All Stars." I kind of like stars better, it keeps a visible reminder!
Your Job -vs- My Job: This is a great back to school activity. We met up at the small group table and discussed jobs that students might have, and the jobs a teacher has to do. We discussed what would happen if we didn't do these things? Once we created our anchor chart we all signed it as a contract reminding ourselves of the importance of being responsible and doing our jobs in the classroom.

The Rhythm Dice Game: great for rhythm review the first days back in school or make one to reinforce a new note value. Divide class into 2 teams. One student rolls die (I am going to use a spinner that I have) and claps the rhythm of the corresponding color(number).
