Whitehaven Beach, Australia by natskis on Flickr. "The sand is 99 % silica and the phenomena is caused by the silica sand bed that is in between the two beaches. The silica makes the sand almost pure white and it regulates the temperature of the sand so that it's comfortable to walk on even when it's a hot day."
