Faithful Place (kinda romeo & juliet-ish, except poor, Irish and f'd up) (Dublin Murder Squad, book 3) by Tana French
Sounds good! Detective Frank Mackey finds himself straight back in the dark tangle of relationships he left behind twenty-two years ago when the suitcase belonging to his first love, Rosie Daly, shows up behind a fireplace in a derelict house on Faithful Place. The hotly anticipated third novel of the Dublin murder squad.

In The Woods - Tana French - very descriptive read but good.. May need to move onto something simple for a mind break.
In the woods / Tana French. When he was twelve years old, Adam Ryan went playing in the woods one sunny day with his two best friends. He never saw them again. Their bodies were never found, and Adam himself was discovered with his back pressed against an oak tree and his shoes filled with blood. He had no memory of what had happened. Twenty years later Adam -- now using his middle name of Rob -- is a detective with the Dublin police force.

In The Woods (Dublin Murder Squad, #1) Dublin Murder Squad 2 & 3 are equally wonderful.
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours.Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret. "My father, James Witherspoon, is a bigamist." With that opening line, Tayari Jones spins a breathtaking tale about a man's deception, a family's complicity, and the two teenage girls caught in the middle. There are two families: the public one and the secret one. When the two daughters meet and form a friendship, only one of them knows they are sisters. It is a relationship destined to explode.
With the opening line of Silver Sparrow, “My father, James Witherspoon, is a bigamist,” author Tayari Jones unveils a breathtaking story about a man’s deception, a family’s complicity, and two teenage girls caught in the middle.

Set in a middle-class neighborhood in Atlanta in the 1980s, the novel revolves around James Witherspoon’s two families—the public one and the secret one. When the daughters from each family meet and form a friendship, only one of them knows they are sisters. It is a relationship destined to explode when secrets are revealed and illusions shattered.
From the very first line (“My father, James Witherspoon, is a bigamist”), you know this book is going to be a rather unusual family drama. Indeed, James Witherspoon has two families, one public, one secret, and two daughters, one public, one secret. But daughters have a way of finding themselves — and each other — out. A highly engaging book about truth, family, and growing up.

Books Worth Reading, September 2014, Secret Places, Tana French, Reading List, Boarding Schools, Murder Squad, Boys Who
Just finished The Secret Place, by Tana French -- out in September 2014. A little bit of a lighter read than the other Dublin Murder Squad titles, but also more fun. It takes place in a posh private boarding school for girls. She really captures the essence and angst of today's kids. If you like murder mysteries with a good story AND beautiful writing, you've got to check her out.
Part of a series by Tana French called the dublin murder squad. I haven't read anything by this woman... but she is on my to-read list!!
The Secret Place (Dublin Murder Squad): Tana French The photo on the card shows a boy who was found murdered, a year ago, on the grounds of a girls’ boarding school in the leafy suburbs of Dublin. The caption says I KNOW WHO KILLED HIM. The Secret Place is a powerful, haunting exploration of friendship and loyalty, and a gripping addition to the Dublin Murder Squad series.
#9. The Secret Place by Tana French - Investigating a photograph of a boy whose murder was never solved, aspiring Murder Squad member Stephen Moran partners with detective Antoinette Conway to search for answers in the cliques and rivalries at a Dublin boarding school.
The Secret Place by Tana French (FIC French). Detective Stephen Moran has been hoping to get his foot in the door of the Dublin Murder Squad, and one day he finally gets his chance, teaming up with Detective Antoinette Conway. The team attempt to discover why someone at a girls boarding school is trying to reignite the stalled investigation of the murder of handsome, popular Chris Harper.
The Secret Place, Tana French (September 2) Do you like Gone Girl? Yes? Then it’s time to catch up with French and her Dublin Murder Squad mysteries. The Secret Place is the fifth in the series — this one is about the murder of a teen boy, which leads to a complicated web of secrets and lies surrounding a group of teenage girls at boarding school.
The photo on the card shows a boy who was found murdered, a year ago, on the grounds of a girls' boarding school in the leafy suburbs of Dublin. The caption says I KNOW WHO KILLED HIM. Detective Stephen Moran has been waiting for his chance to get a foot in the door of Dublin's Murder Squad -- and one morning, sixteen-year-old Holly Mackey brings him this photo.
I love all of Tana French's books. The Likeness is still my favorite of hers, but I really enjoyed this one too. This is the 5th book in her Dublin Murder Squad collection. It is a detective-procedural murder mystery set at an all girls boarding school in Ireland.
4 stars. The Secret Place by Tana French. The photo on the card shows a boy who was found murdered, a year ago, on the grounds of a girls’ boarding school in the leafy suburbs of Dublin. The caption says, “I KNOW WHO KILLED HIM.” Well written detective

I've flown through every book in French's Dublin Murder Squad series—though I've enjoyed some more than others—because her mysteries are so darn compelling. Can't wait for her next one to drop this September.
Six months after the events of In the Woods, Detective Cassie Maddox is still recovering. Transferred out of Dublin’s Murder squad at her own request, she vows never to return. That is, until her boyfriend, Detective Sam O’Neill, calls her one beautiful spring morning, urgently asking her to come to a murder scene in the small town of Glenskehy.
Continuing where she left off in her electrifying first novel, In the Woods, Tana French aces this follow-up in the series. Dublin Murder Squad detective Cassandra Maddox is on a new case - but without her old partner. While some suspension of disbelief is required at the beginning, the way that Cassie masquerades as a dead woman in order to find her killer is absolutely mesmerizing.
The book: The Likeness by Tana French (No. 2 in the Dublin Murder Squad series) The hook: The concept of this series is unique in that Tana French takes a minor character from the previous novel (all of whom are detectives at the same Dublin squad)
The book: The Likeness by Tana French (No. 2 in the Dublin Murder Squad series) The hook: The concept of this series is unique in that Tana French takes a minor character from the previous novel (all of whom are detectives at the same Dublin squad) and makes them the protagonist of the next. In this follow-up to In The Woods, a female detective is called to a murder scene where the victim looks exactly like her and carried an ID with the name she used as an undercover detective years ...

A description of families and holidays you'll ever read.Sounds like a fun book to read around the holidays.
A pinner's first Augusten Burroughs book....he found it while stranded in the Atlanta airport for 6.5 hours waiting for a flight with nothing to read! "An easy and fun read and a great way to get in the christmas spirit and relax!!!!"
January 2014 Bookies Book Club You better not cry : stories for Christmas / Augusten Burroughs.
YOU BETTER NOT CRY (PART VII) I was at the airport in Detroit when something caught my eye. I was dumbfounded. It was Burrough's book with SANTA FLASHING! Now I was pissed. However, I decided to let it go, even though Steve Snider all but ripped off our idea. That is, until a few weeks ago when I came across the cover in the Regional Design Annual of PRINT. Snider's comment: "...A flashing Santa seemed to strike the right chord." Sounds more like a pirated tune if you ask me.
I love Augusten! I actually have this book but it's still in my "books to read" pile =P
