Times Square at dusk, 1932 - the first time I ever went to NYC, I was twelve years old (circa '50's). I stood in awe watching a gigantic advertisement for a steam iron (think GE) with the steam pouring out every so many minutes. I think that advertisement stayed there for many years.

The ships in the harbor don’t have wooden masts, the bridge supports are made of steel (not just the wires), and you can even spot a few motor cars on the street.

New York City, 1955. Looks like the view north from Times Square. You can see Duffy Square, Loew's State Theater, Astor Roof, Claridge Hotel, BOND (which I recall from the 70s though never sure what it was. I also remember Canadian Club ad). I'd guess that the photo was taken from the 7th floor of the New York Times Building (which is now the one clad in white with the megatron and zipper).
