Salamis, Cyprus – This was the first stop on Paul's First Missionary Journey (Acts 13). Photo shows one corner of the ancient agora (marketplace), similar to a shopping "strip mall" of modern times. Most of the shops were about 8 - 12 feet wide and 12 - 20 feet deep. Government functions occurred in the central plaza. Accompanied by Barnabas, who was from Cyprus, along with their assistant John Mark, the Christian missionaries traversed the large island, evangelizing all along the way.
