I'm setting up my room this week and thought I'd share a few pics- these ones are from last year. This year I walked into my room and the whole bulletin board above was taken down and replaced with cabinets! I LOVE the extra storage space, but now I have to reconfigure my room set-up quite a bit- I have only one bulletin board left! Anyways, hopes this helps someone who is struggling to come up with ideas for their art room!

Student Art: A little lovely
My Oh My: Student Art
Our Wedding Announcements came! I mailed all 20 of them out in today's mail. In case you are wondering what the "fine print" says It just basically says the where and when and that it will be a PRIVATE ceremony and that we look forward to celebrating our marriage with friends & family in the near future! *********** Art Room Happenings *********** My Second graders have been working on these Hot Air Balloons now for a few weeks! I have laid down the law with my expectations of coloring with "No white showing" Thus not a rapid breeze through project! Kindergarten Polar Bears! I read them "the three snow bears" by Jan Brett White Paint, Oil Pastels, sharpies. What I don't like about this lesson is that my sharpies some how run out of ink from the paint. I swear the second you take a sharpie over tempera paint to outline, it like kills the marker. I've been working hard on "Organizing" my students C R E A T I O N S T A T I O N So basically what this shelf is --is for my students to come over and keep them selves busy should they finish a project early. They have their option of stencils, plain white paper, How to draw cards, word searches, or coloring pages. Every year I throw my old markers that still work, into this marker bin that the students are allowed to use to during their extra free draw time. The color pencils where randomly there in my room when I over took it, so I have those (my junky mis-matched ones) and then a completely "complete" set that my older kids use on more in depth projects. The biggest challenge for my students is that they keep grabbing our "GOOD" project markers and crayons for "free draw" which they aren't suppose to do. Our Good markers I try to keep in color coded containers for each of my tables. I keep all "MISC" craft stuff in Mason Jars. It makes it WAY easy to see what I am low on! This poster is a new addition to my room (thank you Pinterest!) It REALLY benefits ALL grades as a reminder of how color the "right" way!
A little lovely: Student Art
Have any of you ever checked out on Pinterest to see how many things have been pinned from your own blog? For me, the most pinned post was all about the Glitter keys DIY. Second place has been all art projects which I think is great--up until I saw this: Are these moms completely out of touch? This poster was made to show students HOW TO STAY IN THE LINES. How in the frick does this HINDER their creativity?!?!? Anyone that teaches Kinders will tell you they have the attention span of a nat. They will and do, hurry through everything. The words "I'm Done" fly out of their mouths quicker than you would believe because they already want to do the next thing.Teaching them "No White spaces" teaches them to color SLOWLY and stay in the lines! That's a bad thing? I think not! Most schools operated on "colors" often "flip your card" behavior charts for the younger grades. Smiley faces is the most easiest way for them to identify where their stand with their behavior, so why is coloring any different? There are numerous art blogs I follow that have entire NO NO bulletin boards dedicated to things they don't want children to draw etc etc I am NOT a teacher that does that. What's a no no? Well in some art teachers eyes, this means No "Broccoli" trees, no stick people, no putting the sun in the corner of your paper, no drawing birds as the letter "M". Get my drift? I would NEVER do that to my students. I can vouch that many teachers esp on the blog world DO do this. To me, now that is HINDERING a child's creativity! Can't win. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Ridiculous. Pretty sure I went to college, I got the art education degree, therefore I know what is and isn't hindering to a child's way of learning to color properly!

Trying a new idea to promote kindness in the classroom - Good Idea for next year
Student Shout, Future Classroom, Shout Outs, Teaching Ideas, Behavior Management, Classroom Management, Classroom Ideas, Bucket Filler
This is a good idea to give the students a boost of confidence. And it might help with behavioral management in the classroom. This idea could get overwhelming at times if it gets too full and some students may not get the equal " Shout Outs"
Classroom management: Student Shout Outs. To promote kindness in the classroom students can write a positive shout out about a classmate and submit anytime. Read aloud on a regular basis (Friday afternoons?).
Kindness Seeds: Day 7: Student Shout Outs - Great for starting the year on the right foot! For more ideas like this, check out https://www.pinterest.com/rwredhead/classroom-management-for-elementary-teachers/.
Praise students and let students encourage one another. Great way to build relationships and motivation within the students. With these student shoutouts students are only allowed to say positive things about their peers. This really develops a great sense of community within the students. Everyone deserves to feel safe, supported and encouraged by their peers. This is definitely something I will use in my future classroom!
I think this is an elementary school idea, but what a cool way to build trust.

Life skills classroom idea
Apparently I have been super slow on jumping on the Vistaprint wagon for teacher goodies. I use Vistaprint for my crafty related needs but had never branched out. So after finding this VISTAprint facebook page (full of created things by teachers: it screams inspiration central) vistaprint facebook group I decided to snag some freebies (just paid for shipping) behavior party invitation. Because I teach students who have behavioral and emotional disabilities, we have behavior parties every 2-3 weeks. I always make invitations for the kids that make it as this is a really BIG deal for us:) I fell in love with this zebra and pink polka dot design. behavior boost card I have 250 of these I also became inspired from looking through one of my back to school catelogs (Really Good Stuff maybe?) and saw some student flip tents that had things like : I need help, I'm finished. Instead of raising their hand or yelling your name, they would just use their flip tent responders. So I decided to make my own. I obviously have a smaller class population of students but this could also be used in a regular ed setting during small group activities. Folded up paper into a 3 tier tent then taped together. One side says I need help. Another side: I'm working hard Last side: I'm finished I plan on teaching the students how to use their flip tents while working and self monitor what stage of working they are in. They will also learn the expectations of properly caring and handling their tents as well as what to do when they are finished. I only lack 3 followers before a giveaway.

Art Room Signage
This is brilliant - a visual guide for craftsmanship. High School level examples would be such a useful visual aid. Primarily Art with Mrs. Depp
There are signs all over my art room. Many are the usual ones that you would expect to see. (Got some free at conferences!) However, there's a whole bunch of signs that I have made as reminders or disclaimers for my students. They are either on the front board or posted above or below the board. "Let's spread our fingers out like the example on the board." "Draw lightly so that you may erase mistakes. " " Use black last, to outline." "Oh my, please be considerate of the supplies in the art room." Yes, those are bite marks on the crayons............ Believe it or not, these signs are actually working! I haven't found a broken pencil point in the top of a glue bottle in a while! Also, haven't found any scissors in the garbage. These signs are posted by my centers. I believe the photographs are important to help with clean up. This sign is on the wall under my white board. I have often thought this would make a really good picture book to read to students at the beginning of the school year. This is a new sign I made this year. I was inspired by a sign I saw on the website of Firehouse Publications check it out! It is on the bulletin board next to the white board. And in response to: "Should I put my name on my paper?" The answer: "Only if you want it back." The signage does help as a reference for things that I have taught my students. And by having it up front, hopefully they are reading the signs over and over again when they zone out on me. What signs do you have up in your art room? Thanks for reading!!

Love this idea! Want to take this and make it a ministry board of info: meet the teachers, rotation schedules, next big event, etc!
Students Center and Data Wall. This is a good idea so students know where and when assignments need to be turned in. There is a dry erase calendar where the teacher can mark important dates and activities for reference. In addition, there are inbox files for completed work, absent work, and extra credit work.
SPACE: This is an image of a student center a teacher created for her classroom. The student center is a space that provides all the necessary materials students might need. There is a dry-erase calendar with important dates like tests or classroom activities, an absent work folder, an extra credit binder, and access to other materials students might need. This space promotes whole child thinking by supporting students in all areas of learning with constant access to materials. The space is a designated area of the room that is devoted solely to students and ensuring their success and preparedness.

I really like these finisher task cards. After students complete their work early classroom management can be tricky. These reminders give them ideas of what they can do to use that time wisely. 7090
Classroom Management 2--Fast finishers are always something to think about. I liked the idea of having posters of what students could do when they finish an assignment. However, if the posters were never changed, I think students could be expected to memorize these options and self-manage after a while.
