"I don't want to be told I'm pretty as I am. I want to live in a world where it's irrelevant."

"You’re beautiful. I saw beauty in you before I saw it in me. Every day I practiced. I looked at lots and lots of pictures… beauty all sizes, colors, and kinds. I looked at beautiful women until I could see myself."

"Well, when I was nine years old, Star Trek came on, I looked at it and I went screaming through the house, 'Come here, mum, everybody, come quick, come quick, there's a black lady on television and she ain't no maid!' "As is common, the adult has been carefully altered to be identifiable as female because the sign is in reference to caretaking kids. “I’m not an unhealthy person and I feel like one of the most tiring parts of being fat and being proud of it is… you do a lot of proving yourself all the time.” -Beth Ditto

By fawning over weight loss—or secretly gossiping about weight gain behind someone’s back—you are overtly reinforcing a very real system of oppression that uses body size as a barometer for awards and demerits. .. everyone has the right to dignity and respect and a fulfilling life inside of the body they have. Constantly pointing to the reduction of body size as an achievement is creating barriers to that essential and fundamental dignity and respect for body that fat people deserve.
