This picture comes from a true story book entitled "Gramps," by Mark and Dan Jury. The book is about the death of an 81-year-old retired coal miner as told and seen through the eyes of his grandsons over a three year period. It's a glimpse into a moment of incredible humanity.
Talk about provoking an emotional response. This is from the book Gramps, which is now out of print. This is a photo of a grandson taking care of his grandfather. One of the most moving photos I've ever seen. (comment from previous pinner) . . . No one knows what it takes to care for the elderly until they've done it themselves like I have with my grandmother. (RIP grandma!)

Spring Dell Byington (October 17, 1886 – September 7, 1971) was a professional American actress. Her career included a seven-year run on radio and television as the star of December Bride. She was a key MGM contract player appearing in films from the 1930s through the 1960s.The possessor of one of Hollywood's gentlest faces and warmest voices, and about as sweet as Tupelo honey both on-and-off camera, character actress Spring Byington was seldom called upon to play callous or unsympathetic...
Spring Byington (1886 - 1971) ~ The possessor of one of Hollywood's gentlest faces and warmest voices, character actress Spring Byington was seldom called upon to play callous or unsympathetic (she did once play a half-crazed housekeeper in Dragonwyck (1946). Although playing the part of Mrs. March in Little Women (1933) was hardly what one could call a stretch, it did ignite a heartwarming typecasting that kept her employed on the screen throughout the 1930s and 1940s.

Marie Curie (1867-1934) Two-time Nobel laureate Marie Curie discovered polonium and radium, founded the concept of radiology and — above all — made the possibility of a scientific career seem within reach for countless girls and women around the world. The first woman to receive the Nobel Prize and the first female Professor of General Physics in the Faculty of Sciences at the Sorbonne in Paris, Curie was beloved by her colleagues for her calm, singular focus, lack of pretense and professional drive. Her work with radiation is now part of the most sophisticated cancer-treatment protocols in the world, though she herself succumbed to leukemia after decades of daily radiation exposure.

Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock | Woodstock—was a music festival, billed as "An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music". It was held at a 600-acre dairy farm in the Catskills New York, from August 15 to 18, 1969. You didn't have to go to know it was (as the current generation says) EPIC!

At the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, the pole vaulting finals led to some tension between Soviet and Polish spectators. The crowd cheered on the favourite Konstantin Volkov and jeered the Polish jumper Władysław Kozakiewicz. After securing his gold medal, Kozakiewicz made an obscene gesture in reaction to the crowds taunts. After years of strict Soviet control, the Polish people were able to take pride in both his medal and his defiance. In short, the Soviets got a well-deserved fuck you.

In the pole vault competition in the 1980 Moscow Olympics, jeers, chants and whistles among the different factions in the crowd supporting French and Soviet pole vaulters could be heard. Immediately after Poland's Kozakiewicz secured his gold medal, he responded to the jeering French crowds with an obscene bent elbow gesture now referred to in Polish as "Kozakiewicz's gesture".
