A Wolf at the Table. NOT a funny read, but so interesting! A brave look back on a scary childhood that still haunts him. Helps to understand why he went to live with the family in Running With Scissors...it was LESS crazy in many ways.

While very compelling this cover gives off this feeling of discomfort. the way fork bends gives us the impression of something sinister in our future.
VERY good book about a boy's relationship with his father. Couldn't put it down and years later still recommend it to anyone who likes non-fiction and psychology.
don't need to show a wolf to get the idea of a wolf. still get the feeling of aggression and viciousness without being too literal
VERY good book about a boy's relationship with his father. recommend it to anyone who likes non-fiction and psychology.

The Glass Castle. One of my all time favorite books. Hard to believe this was Jeannette Walls life. Pretty amazing how she turned out!
The Glass Castle By: Jeannette Walls I know it's been out a while, but I just read it! New favorite book!!
The Zion Book Club selection for May is The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. The group will meet on Monday, May 9, at 7pm in the Library. Freelance writer Walls doesn't pull her punches. She opens ...
The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls was an amazing book, and I recommend it from Grade 8 through age 99! In this autobiography, Jeannette Walls is like a gypsy, traveling with her odd family across the country on low funds. You start the book with the version of her older self, an accomplished & rich student, looking out on her homeless parents. But then the book takes you back to the start, and a heart felt journey begins to where Jeannette is now.
September's Book Club pick: The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls Jeannette Walls grew up with parents whose ideals and stubborn nonconformity were both their curse and their salvation. Rex and Rose Mary Walls had four children. As the dysfunction of the family escalated, Jeannette and her brother and sisters had to fend for themselves, supporting one another as they weathered their parents' betrayals and, finally, found the resources and will to leave home.
This is on my "to read" list... The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls - amazing book!

The Mind's Eye of Oliver sacks, book cover designed by Chipp Kidd
The book cover for 'Oliver Sacks the Mind's Eye' is designed by Chip Kidd. The colours used are warm colours (red/orange and yellow). The composition of the title is set out like a board for eye-testing. This suggests that the book is about eyes. I think this is communicated well. There are areas of blurry and smudged letters and the letters start big and then end up big. This puts emphasis on the word 'EYE'. The blurred areas represent people who cannot see too well. In this book, I think it is Oliver who cannot see very well. Although it is hard to read, I think this is a very effective book cover that is aimed at an older market because it displays the theme of the book in a simple way.

Cormac McCarthy’s The Road: Father and Son’s Post-Apocalyptic Quest. Note to self: Notify book club about this one.
The Road - Cormac McCarthy This was so depressing but made me feel so appreciative of all our blessings
The Road - Cormac McCarthy, In the 48 hour span I read this book, I could not focus on anything but the characters' well-being. I would suggest reading it in one sitting. Even just one break was unbearable.
The Road - Cormac McCarthy! I thought it was wonderful and was my favorite book I read in grade 12!
The Road - Cormac McCarthy. Started to read it but I need to finish. A pretty good book so far
2006 – The Road, Cormac McCarthy 2006 was a good year for books indeed. Most essential is probably McCarthy’s The Road, the epitome of the harrowing post-apocalyptic novel, which takes so many risks, not least in its language, and cuts to the marrow. Also recommended: Fun Home, Alison Bechdel; The Children’s Hospital, Chris Adrian; Black Swan Green, David Mitchell; In Persuasion Nation, George Saunders; The Book Thief, Markus Zusak; Twilight of the Superheroes, Deborah Eisenberg

This was my favorite book in the Hunger Games trilogy!! Catching Fire (Book 2 of The Hunger Games) by Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games Trilogy. Book #1 'The Hunger Games'. Book #2 'Catching Fire'. Book #3 'Mockingjay'. By Suzanne Collins.
The second book in the Hunger Games trilogy, Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins highlights Katniss Everdeen's return to the Hunger Games as a rebellion against the Capitol has taken center stage.
The Hunger Games Trilogy. Book #1 'The Hunger Games'. Book #2 'Catching Fire'. Book #3 'Mockingjay'. By Suzanne Collins. Hunger Games is about an annual event that takes place every year. There are 12 districts and one boy and one girl from every district must be picked to take part of the events.
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins - The second book of the Hunger Games Trilogy. Fast pace and good twists. Me likey! ☆☆☆☆☆
Just finished reading Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. The second book in the Hunger Games series.
Catching Fire (2nd book of Hunger Games trilogy) - 2.5 stars. This book has the unfortunate position of being the second book in a trilogy. You've got "let-down" from the adventure of the first book and "build-up" for the adventures of the final book. The author really missed an opportunity to describe the districts in detail in this book. She glosses over the victory tour instead of giving the reader the details he craves. (con't)
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins -- the 2nd book in the Hunger Games Series.

SARAH. The Unconsoled, a book designed by Chip Kidd. Feels like something missing - a note from under the four pins - a metaphor for loss of memory. Has an 'altered state' mood. The symbol in the middle is somewhat musical and refers to content.

The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald, 1925. Francis Cugat, a relatively unknown artist at the time, was commissioned to design the cover of the novel while Fitzgerald was still working on it — when Fitzgerald saw the cover, finished before the novel, he liked it so well that he told his publisher that he had “written it into” the book. Hemingway, on the other hand, hated it.
