LOVE Leonardo da Vinci!!! One of my favorite artists of all time. This guy had it all. He could draw, paint , sculpt, design flying machines (over 500yrs before the fact), and had more wisdom of the anatomy of the human body than most doctors of his day. Brains, beauty, and incomparable talent-what's not to love? ;)

This is a self portrait of Leonardo da Vinci with full Santa Claus beard drawn in red chalk. Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian artist, inventor and scientist who made many contributions to these fields and others. He is often regarded as one of the most talented people to have ever lived.
A fading drawing by Leonardo da Vinci long believed to be a self-portrait is being tested using a new nondestructive technique that may help preservationists determine whether the red-chalk drawing can be restored and what method might be best to restore it.
The original Renaissance man had a few well-kept secrets. This chalk drawing by da Vinci is believed to be a self portrait.
Leonardo Da Vinci believed that a good artist must also be a good scientist in order to best understand an describe nature. Leonardo's life and work were not always understood as he was a Renaissance man. His art, scientific work and technological inventions and humanistic philosophy were all merged together.
Leonardo da Vinci - genius - the art of drawing is so underrated.

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (April 15, 1452 – May 2, 1519) was an Italian Renaissance polymath: painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist and writer whose genius, perhaps more than that of any other figure, epitomized the Renaissance humanist ideal. Leonardo has often been described as the archetype of the Renaissance Man, a man of "unquenchable curiosity" and "feverishly inventive imagination". He is widely considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and perhaps the most diversely talented person ever to have lived. According to art historian Helen Gardner, the scope and depth of his interests were without precedent and "his mind and personality seem to us superhuman, the man himself mysterious and remote". Marco Rosci points out, however, that while there is much speculation about Leonardo, his vision of the world is essentially logical rather than mysterious, and that the empirical methods he employed were unusual for his time. Born out of wedlock to a notary, Piero da Vinci, and a peasant woman, Caterina, at Vinci in the region of Florence, Leonardo was educated in the studio of the renowned Florentine painter, Verrocchio. Much of his earlier working life was spent in the service of Ludovico il Moro in Milan. He later worked in Rome, Bologna and Venice, and he spent his last years in France at the home awarded him by Francis I. Leonardo was and is renowned primarily as a painter. Among his works, the Mona Lisa is the most famous and most parodied portrait and The Last Supper the most reproduced religious painting of all time, with their fame approached only by Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam. Leonardo's drawing of the Vitruvian Man is also regarded as a cultural icon, being reproduced on items as varied as the euro, textbooks, and T-shirts. Perhaps fifteen of his paintings survive, the small number because of his constant, and frequently disastrous, experimentation with new techniques, and his chronic procrastination. Nevertheless, these few works, together with his notebooks, which contain drawings, scientific diagrams, and his thoughts on the nature of painting, compose a contribution to later generations of artists only rivalled by that of his contemporary, Michelangelo. Leonardo is revered for his technological ingenuity. He conceptualised a helicopter, a tank, concentrated solar power, a calculator, the double hull, and he outlined a rudimentary theory of plate tectonics. Relatively few of his designs were constructed or were even feasible during his lifetime,[nb 3] but some of his smaller inventions, such as an automated bobbin winder and a machine for testing the tensile strength of wire, entered the world of manufacturing unheralded.[nb 4] He made important discoveries in anatomy, civil engineering, optics, and hydrodynamics, but he did not publish his findings and they had no direct influence on later science.

Portrait of Michelangelo, 1550 by Daniell Ricciarelli da Volterra ~ the holes, or little dots in the drawing are "pounce" marks. The artist uses a wheel with points on it that leave little holes in the drawing. The artist then forces chalk or graphite through the holes. This how Michelangelo transferred his drawings onto the fresh plaster of the Sistine Chapel.

Portrait of Lisa Gherardini (Mona Lisa or La Gioconda) - Leonardo da Vinci, 1503-06 while this is a beautiful piece of art, seeing it in real life kind of sucked because it was sooooo crowded at the Louvre, and on opposite walls were huge, huge paintings by other artists that no one seemed to be paying attention to. but, still an awesome piece.
Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, he started painting it in 1503. This is Renaissance Art because of the perspective and depth in the painting. I really like this picture because of the look on her face, it really makes you wonder. I also like the background. It gives you more things to look at. Also has very good detail and depth.
History of Art: Paintings that Changed the World Leonardo da Vinci (1452—1519) Mona Lisa (La Gioconda) c. 1503-5 Musee du Louvre, Paris
The Mona Lisa is an excellent representation of Reneissance Art. Painted by genius Leonardo Da Vinci, this portrait shows a woman (although some believe to be a woman version of Da Vinci) smiling, which has baffled people for centuries. Another thing about this portrait is that if you move from side to side looking at the painting, this eyes will follow your movement. Compared to modern art, a different type of canvas, paint, and style is used. (Was it Impressionism or something else...)
