    Yep, we had a special can that we kept the strained bacon grease in and except for baking, when Crisco was used, that bacon grease was used for everything else. Fried potatoes was one of my all time favorites.

    Exactly...and seemed to NEVER run out of bacon grease...and knew "CRISCO" well...fried chicken, fries, green tomatoes, okra, fish...etc..but fried potatoes and onions was a staple....ahhh, the memories

    I don't know of a specific Black Pepper gravy, but if I were guessing I would make the gravy using Peppered Bacon and use fresh ground pepper for a more robust flavor.
