If I had favourites this would be one of my favourite colour combinations. Love this image and would love to own a yellow umbrella. S.
sineaddee: I love the colour in this photo - does make me think of How I met Your Mother though. I want to yank the yellow umbrella up and scream “WHO ARE YOU??”
"Once upon a time, a girl walked upon a road on a rainy day, her yellow umbrella standing out among the darkened city."

What can be said about Henri Cartier-Bresson that hasnt already been said? The father of photo journalism, the greatest photo journalist in history, a definitive article. There is however a lot more depth to Cartier-Bresson than the fluff, some quick did you know's might work best. - He refused to edit his images after in the darkroom and insisted they be printed full frame - his belief was in composition within the camera. - He was one of the very first photographers to work in 35mm - his chosen format because the Leica rangefinders he loved were light and easy to carry and use quickly - never used SLR cameras. - Used 50mm lenses constantly except for rare landscape shots - prefered the 50mm prime to any other lens. - Never used flashbulbs - "Impolite...like coming to a concert with a pistol in your hand." was his response - available light was his thing. - Hated publicity, believed the image was the key not the photographer. - Fought with the French Army at the outbreak of World War II and was a prisoner of war for 35 months captured in 1940. - Worked as an active member of the French resistance during the war and used his camera to document the German occupation. - Founded the Magnum Agency with Robert Capa, David "Chim" Seymour, Bill Vandivert, George Rodger in 1947 as a Co-Operative - members dont work for magnum they are invited to join - the agency has produced some of the definitive work of the past 50 years and is considered the agency for photo-journalists. - Covered the death of Ghandi in 1948 and the fall of the Kuomintang in 1949 - capturing images of a world in change that are some of his most powerful. - Always considered his firs love to be painting - not photography : in the 1970's he said "All I care about these days is painting—photography has never been more than a way into painting, a sort of instant drawing." - exhibited collections of paintings in the 1970's. - Died in France, August 3, 2004 at 95 years of age. It was Cartier-Bresson who first encouraged me to pick up a camera and start taking photographs - a book of his images as a gift when i was 10 did it all. He inspired me to be a photo-journalist but sadly that wasnt my path in the end, yet every time I pick up a camera I think of one quote and thats why I take photographs. "To take a photograph is to hold one’s breath when all faculties converge in a face of fleeing reality. It is at that moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy." It was taken from a public domain site where it is presented as a wallpaper image and will be taken down if requested. Though this came from a wallpaper site i will state that normally such images are held in copyright Cartier-Bresson/Magnum Photo.
He was arguably the last century's greatest photographer, and the photograph above was to Time magazine, "The Photo of the Century". While honored and remembered as the premier photojournalist, Henri Cartier-Bresson also gave the world the jewels of the street photography, most famous among which was this 1932 picture, Derriere la Gare Saint-Lazare. By then, photographs of puddle…

Polish photographer Marcin Ryczek snapped this once-in-a-lifetime photograph of a man feeding swans and ducks from a snowy river bank in Krakow. The trifecta juxtaposition between black/white, water/snow, and person/animals is simply astounding.

'Street photography is all about observing people, their actions and juxtapositions. Keep your eyes open, look for interesting connections. You’re more likely to get a memorable photograph when you’re part of the scene and reacting to the emotions and drama that is being acted out around you' Rui Pahla. Look familiar? This decisive moment (top right), taken on a rainy day in Lisbon was captured just a few years ago by the Portuguese photographer Rui Pahla. Undoubtedly influenced by one of the first street photographers, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Palha's quick and intuitive eye has captured many incredible moments, testament that the art of black and white street photography is still alive and well. He recently published his first book, 'Fotografia de Rua', (Photographs of the Street) which contains beautiful images of his native city, Lisboa, and all it's interesting characters.

"The CHIEF DANGER of the Church today is that it is TRYING to get on the same side as the world, INSTEAD OF TURNING THE WORLD UPSIDE DOWN. Our Master expects us to accomplish results, even if they bring opposition and conflict. Anything is better than compromise, apathy, and paralysis." ~ A.B. Simpson

Taken from the Empire State Building Observatory Deck on a cloudy night in New York City during my trip to the States in November-December 2011. This was the only building visible above the clouds in that direction.
In the dark night's fog, glowing gray with New York City lights, the top of the Empire State Building looks like a huge Christmas Tree glowing with white lights in the distance, as if in a field of snow at night. -DdO:) - http://www.pinterest.com/DianaDeeOsborne/intriguing-architecture/ - Nice photo of this skyscraper building's intriguing architecture viewpoint, with its signature scalloped arches lit up at the top, pinned via tbgreen75791

Hawaiians use the shaka to convey the "Aloha Spirit", a concept of friendship, understanding, compassion, and solidarity among the various ethnic cultures that reside within Hawaii. Its use has spread around the world. The shaka sign may also be referred to as "hang loose" or "hang ten"- both associated with surfer culture =D
Surfs Up, Hang Ten, Cool Picture, Certainly, Good Vibes
Paul Walker....his hand signal is Hawaiian... The Shaka Sign, can be interpreted as "Hello," "Goodbye," "Have a nice day," "Take it easy," "Good luck," or, the most popular definition, "Hang loose." Actual sign language uses the Shaka configuration to signify surfing itself, which shows the connection between the Shaka and the wave riding culture.
