Brown Bag Book Club: Students fill out the reader response form. Fill the bag with popcorn and divide students into groups to discuss the story. They can snack as they share what they learned.

"Discussion Tables" - Pick a passage from a book you are reading and glue it to the center of bulletin board paper and have the students write their thoughts about the passage.

Book Tasting. This could be fun for the beginning of the year. Have the kids "taste" different books and fill in their reading notebook with what books they want to read that year.

main idea bags - students look at items in bag, determine what they have in common, and write the main idea and supporting details of the bag!

Great visual for students to make for author's purpose. I think I would have them add cut out examples of those texts from Scholastic book club flyer.

Print 6 different MESSED UP sentences and glue them onto a tissue box. The kids “roll” the box, read the sentence, write it, and then revise it. Great for a writing center!
