It evolved into the heart of the city of Mostar, joining Bosnia & Herzegovina. The original arch of the bridge was built using a local stone called tenelija. The Old Bridge stood for 427 years, but in the Croat-Bosniak War (1993) it was hit & fell into the river. It was rebuilt in 2004 with some of the original stones recovered from the river by divers
